About Mary. A project by Nero/Alessandro Neretti

The installation enriches the contemporary section of the exhibition “Ho visto la Madonna!”, set up from 17th March to 15th May.

About Maria is a project created by the artist for the spaces of Brick Studio in Faenza.

A series of plaster Madonnas were attached to a bicycle with a chain and dragged along the asphalt by the artist. The result of this action is the work we now see on display, that documents the entire creative process.

«Don’t tell me that your faith resides in this piece of chalk – declared the artist – and don’t tell me that your passion dwells in this inanimate figure scratched by the asphalt, because if you try to convince me of this with your words, you perch yourself on a solitary peak, you detach yourself from what is the true path of faith. I made this project and this performance in an intimate way, alone among people. For me this is a path of expiation, through my sins, in a meditative atmosphere, of reflection, in which the slow and relentless pedaling was accompanied by the sound that you will hear in the exhibition space. […] This action, this personal journey, have the task of communicating that the ugliness of the contemporary world, to which we are slowly and inexorably dozing off, continue to be present, so let us not drag our faith listlessly, day after day, our passion, our beauty, we even try to preserve it, to transport it wisely in what I call a Madonna carrier, which has nothing to do with the mortification of passion and faith, on the contrary, it embodies for me a via crucis … woman, broad and aware of what is the subdued pain that we perpetrate every day towards others, but above all towards ourselves».
