On Saturday May 9th the Museo della Ceramica will be open until midnight and admission will be free for all visitors. This special late night opening is also involving the Complesso Monumentale della Cattedrale, the Pinacoteca civica and the oratories and churches located in the old town of Savona.
The White Night of Saturday May 9th celebrates the bicentenary of the coronation of the statue of Nostra Signora della Misericordia by Pope Pius VII in 1815. The statue is situated inside the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Misericordia of Savona, which was erected on the site commemorating the apparition of the Virgin Mary to the officially blessed Antonio Botta in 1536.
It is in order to commemorate this anniversary that Pope Francis convoked the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. To celebrate this special occasion, the Diocese of Savona-Noli, the Municipality of Savona and Opere Sociali, in collaboration with Fondazione “De Mari”, decided to create two days of events and activities, which will take place on Saturday May 9th a Sunday May 10th.
