The complete programme of the X Festival of Majolica

After the opening ceremony held on May 7th, the 10th edition of the International Festival of Majolica will be opening its doors to the public with a full calendar of activities and events. The programme was brought together through a long process where all the organizing bodies focused their attention on building quality events aimed to focus the attention of tourists, culture professionals, artisans and artists on the biggest artistic treasure of the Savona and Albisole area: ceramics.

For the duration of the festival, the Museo della Ceramica,  together with its permanent exhibition, will also host a set of cultural initiatives.

On Thursday May 21st, at 4:30 p.m., the museum will welcome the first appointment of a round of meetings and themed tours aimed to discover the extraordinary heritage on show inside the halls of Palazzo Gavotti. This first appointment will be conducted by Eliana Mattiauda, Director of the Musei Civici of Savona, and it will be focusing on “Renaissance at the Museo della Ceramica”.

On Thursday May 28th, at 4:30 p.m., Rosalina Collu, art historian of Regione Liguria, will present “Excellence for a Savona-based artist: from painting to majolica”.

The following appointments will be held on Thursday, June 4th and Thursday, June 18th. Respectively, Luca Bochiccio, Phd in History of Contemporary Art, will introduce the themed tour on “Classicism and Archaism in Contemporary Art”, while Roberto Costantino, Art Director of Attese Edizioni, will guide the appointment on “Contemporary handicrafts in between art and design at the Museo della Ceramica”.

An important date in the Festival calendar is surely June 10th: on this very day, the Museo della Ceramica will be presented by the City of Savona and the Fondazione De Mari at Expo Milano 2015 as the new museum centre for the promotion of excellence in Ligurian ceramic art on a national scale.

During all summer, special opening events will grant the possibility to freely access the museum. The first of these occasions will be on Saturday, 30th May  in connection with the opening of “Buongiorno Ceramica”, a set of events promoted by Associazione Italiana Città della Ceramica which will take place from 29th to 31st of May.

This intense calendar of activities will also provide an occasion for visiting the permanent collection of the Museo della Ceramica, which includes approximately one thousand ceramic art masterpieces dating from the 15th century up to Contemporary Art, among which the work of Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui, recently awarded with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the opening ceremony of the Biennale di Venezia.
